There exists a huge opportunity for Queensland small and medium businesses (SMBs). Every year the Queensland Government procures close to $18 billion of products and services from the private sector, and as of July this year, 30% of this is to be procured from the SMB sector.
But there’s a big problem. Put simply, there aren’t enough Queensland small businesses putting their hands up to supply and fulfil Government contracts. So many businesses are missing out on helping their businesses to grow through Government contracts.
For a long time, several myths have existed which have prevented smaller businesses from bidding for Government business. Myths like:
- “We’re too small to supply Government.”
- “Government only want the cheapest supplier.”
- “Government takes too long to pay.”
These myths, as well as five other myths, have existed for decades and, consciously or otherwise, create barriers for many small businesses and prevent them from seriously considering putting their hand up for Government work. Many businesses already exist that are perfect partners for Government. This presentation breaks down these myths and helps SMBs realise that they can diversify and strengthen their businesses through Government supply.
