Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that allow computers to learn and improve based on data – but what does this mean for business?
To help answer this question, we will explore a subset of machine learning known as deep learning. This has become an essential technology for many businesses, allowing automation and streamlining of processes which in turn improves customer experience and greater data insights.
We will introduce the basics of deep learning and show you an example of how powerful it can be for your own business by stepping through how to build an image classifier using the fastai library. This is where computers are able to automatically categorise visual content based on the rules provided.
Whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned Python developer, this presentation will give you a practical and hands-on introduction to deep learning and its potential for business applications. By the end of the session, you will have a working image classifier and a better understanding of how deep learning can benefit your organization.
In this workshop, you will:
- Understand the basics of deep learning, including neural networks, training, and optimization
- Hands-on experience in building an image classifier using fastai and fine-tuning a pre-trained model
- Understanding the potential of deep learning for solving real-world business problems, and challenges associated with deploying deep learning models in production environments
Please note there will be pizza and networking from 5:30PM – 6:00PM. The workshop session will then run from 6:00PM – 7:30PM.
About Arun Prakash Pillai, Senior Data Scientist at WooliesX
Arun is a Senior Data Scientist in Brisbane, specializing in providing machine learning solutions for retail industries. He holds a master’s degree in computer science, with a major in AI and machine learning. Arun has previously worked as a software and full-stack developer, gaining a broad range of technical skills.
Arun’s passion lies in problem-solving across various industries. He was ranked 4th out of 7,000 participants in a global machine learning competition that utilized computer vision to predict animal attributes for better protection. Arun has also won prizes in numerous machine learning hackathons, both in Australia and globally.
In his free time, Arun volunteers to teach Python, data science, and machine learning to aspiring learners in Brisbane.
About Tim Cummings, Founder of Sunshine Hydro
I have been developing software for 40 years and am still amazed when discovering how new technology can improve our solutions, even for old problems. I am one of the founders of Sunshine Hydro, developing technology for energy storage projects required for the transition to 24/7 carbon-free energy. I love learning and love to help others learn. As well as running the Beginners’ Python and Machine Learning sessions with Arun, I developed the pythonator game for teaching python to teenagers and used it at CoderDojo.
