Former Journalist Lady Jane (Brumfield) Edwards is the founder of BBS Communications Group, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland’s School of Journalism and Communications and a regular public speaker on leadership and business sustainability.
BBS Communications Group pioneered and set the pace for communications consultancy practice since its inception in 1989, working mainly in construction and master planned communities, health and medical services, tertiary education and professional services firms.
This consultancy is now recognised for its advisory work in government relations, crisis and issues management, brand strategy, market development and management, community engagement, media relations, and change management strategy.
Since 2000, Jane has served as the Honorary Consul for France in Queensland. In this role, she continues to serve served as Patron of the French Foreign Legion and the Troupes de Marine and has worked with French business and community groups to establish a French school in Brisbane. In addition, she is a patron of the French Festival and a long-serving member of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
She was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (National Order of Merit) for her services to the French Community and recently received France’s highest honour, La légion d’honneur, from the President of France, M.Macron.
Jane is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) and maintains long-standing personal relationships with experts and thought leaders across a broad range of industries around Australia and has high-level contacts in Queensland State Government and the Australian Federal Government.
Jane was also the founding Chairman of the annual Premier’s Literary Awards, which flourished under her stewardship for twelve years. In addition, she was the first woman in 103 years to Chair the Board of Trustees of the Queensland Art Gallery.
She has served as a director of the Queensland State Museum, is Deputy Chairman of Opera Queensland and is a director of the City of Brisbane Investment Corporation and the Lord Mayor’s Business Advisory Board, among others.
