Mel has more than two decades of experience in strategic communication and leadership, gained by working with commercial, government and non-profit organisations. She also brings the unique educational combination of a Master of Business (Marketing) and a Master of Public Health, making her a valuable asset to leaders and teams that want to achieve real connection and sustained engagement.
Her last role, before starting her communication practice in 2006, was Executive Manager Marketplace Strategy at the Qld Office of Fair Trading. She was responsible for leading a team of 14 to communicate with and educate Queensland businesses and consumers on their rights and responsibilities regarding almost 100 pieces of legislation.
Today Mel works with senior leaders, teams, organisations and Boards to help them become more connected in an increasingly disconnected world. She is a sought-after thought leader, speaker, mentor and facilitator who helps her clients create stronger relationships with their workforce, customers and investors.
Mel is also very well known for her expertise in digital and social media, and she is the author of The Social Association: 5 key skills not-for-profits need to increase member engagement, generate ROI and create thriving online communities. Her second book Connected Leadership – Starts with You is due out in mid-2020.
She currently sits on the Management Committee for Professional Speakers Australia Queensland Chapter and is a past Board Member of The Queensland Choir, War Child Australia and The International Association of Business Communicators (Qld).
Mel has often appeared in the media including ABC Brisbane, RN Life Matters, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Courier-Mail, The Daily Telegraph and Smart Company. She is the host of podcast This Connected Life and is also a frequent podcast guest. Her clients have included Toll, Microsoft, Queensland Country Bank, The University of Canberra, Queensland University of Technology, Queensland Government, NSW Government, Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Australian Medical Association (Qld), IHC New Zealand, Arup and many small businesses.
